Tkachev predicts a 25% expansion of greenhouse vegetables production

Russia cannot bridge the internal vegetable deficit yet.

Alexander Tkachev, Minister of Agriculture, has informed at the Prime Minster’s conference that production of greenhouse vegetables, according to forecasts, will experience a 25% growth and achieve 800 thousand tons, as a result of 2016.

«The vegetable import restrictions have positively affected the vegetable production. The production of greenhouse vegetables, according to forecasts, will experience a 25% growth and achieve 800 thousand tons as a result of 2016. While 2 million is required to bridge the deficit, so we have to produce 1 million tons more. We proceed purchasing them, i.e. dozens of billion RUB. In general, it is intended to gather 16,5 mln tons of vegetables, 31 mln tons of potatoes», — as the Minister is cited by the press office.

He also added that the agricultural producers are actively involved in developing the new greenhouse capacities. «You are right to say that today we build 200 ha of greenhouses, but to achieve the goal set by you and President, — to fully provide ourselves with vegetables in a 5-year term, — we need 300 ha. Thus, by 2020, we will almost reach the amount as of 1 mln. tons that we need», — he thinks.

As reported by «Growth Technologies», the total vegetable and greenery output by all enterprises in 2015 amounted to 749 thsd. tons, taking into account Crimea. In 2016, the output may increase by 10−20 thsd. tons. In July, the winter greenhouse yield of vegetables has already grown up to 382,5 thousand tons compared to 336 thousand tons at the similar period in 2015.

The bulk of the increase of Russian greenhouse vegetables accounts for the production growth of cucumbers, as the experts note.
